Got Baptized!

Mini Hu, 24, Taiwanese. Staying in Seattle for 9 months.

Since last September, Mini has been in Seattle almost for nine months. The reason she came to the States is to receive advanced education. Not saying her home country Taiwan doesn’t have it, just her parents and advisor in Taiwan really pushed her to study abroad because they think her personality is more close to innovative learning, not rote learning.

DIFFERENCES IN MINI’S LIFE

Mini has a healthier life here in some ways such as

‧Work-out everyday.
‧No high hill shoes, wearing in causal style.
‧Don’t care others.
‧Speak something bad in public since seldom people can speak Mandarin in some settings.

WHAT CHANGED IN HER BRAND NEW LIFE?

Although Mini changed her life style in some way, two significant changes affected her mostly here.

Time Management
Nonetheless, Mini feels her life in Seattle is more boring and not productive than in Taiwan. Most of time, she often goes to school, work and church. Obviously, her life is changing in several ways such as food, community and time. However, Mini thinks “time management” is her crucial change here. First, because she doesn’t have friends or any relatives here, she was totally new here! Unlike in Taiwan, she always has somebody to call, to meet, even to talk. However, in Seattle, here, besides studies she still has plenty of time! Her schedule suddenly left lots of blank blocks! This is pretty scaring to her.

Faith in God
Mini always lives a busy and dynamic life since her childhood. In other words, it is difficult to her dealing with loneliness all the time. Because of that, she goes to church more often and got baptized last November. She committed her way to God and her life is improving especially when I study Bible, she feels much better in spiritual growth. That is a very blessed gift for Mini to stay in Seattle.

FEAR CHANGE?
Mini quite enjoys her changing and keeps developing the relationship between God and her. Going to church more often is very valuable and improves the life quality in Seattle. She feels better, but not much. However, she believes if she prays hard and studies bible hard, she will be much better.

Moreover, Mini would like to stay in Seattle for work at least one year for understanding different work atmosphere. She loves challenging in new life!

Mini Hu is a graduate student in Master of Communication in Digital Media program. She has been here since last September and will probably have finished this degree by December.
